Acne is a very common localized skin inflammation that affects 8 out of every 10 person. It commonly affects boys than girls, however there are more women experiencing acne in their 30s, 40s and 50s nowadays.
Acne happens at the age of puberty when the oil glands near hair follicles come to life. These oil glands are responsible for protecting and lubricating the skin by secreting oil through skin pores. Sometimes, the skin at the top of the pore becomes thicker and dead skin cells that are shed into the pores block the skin opening. As the glands continuously produce oil, this over activity leads to oil build up underneath the skin surface around the hair follicle. The bacteria known as P. Acne normally lives on the surface of the skin and has no harm to the body and after the oil build up it starts feeding on the oil and this causes the surrounding tissue to inflame.
Depending on how deep the inflammation is the affected person gets either pustule the surface of skin or pimple deep in the skin. If the pore blocking the oil is closed, you get whitehead and if the pore is open the oil gets deoxidized and it becomes blackhead.
Acne can resolve on its own, however if it is not treated it can become severe and last for years and ultimately turn into scars that will leave marks after acne clears.
